Lapco TT (Train the Trainers) Course - Manchester: 28th and 29th January 2013

The nineth Lapco TT (Train the Trainers) laparoscopic colorectal surgery course took place at The Christie Hospital, Manchester, which is the first time that the course was hosted in this location.

Day 1 was held in the Clinical Skills Unit within the Education Centre which is structured around discursive and role play sessions. Day 2 is centrened around trainer sessions with local SPRs in theatres, there are 3 cases which will be broadcast to the course attendees in the adjacent seminar room using a split screen of head shots, along with the lap camera image. During Day 2, each delegate will be given the opportunity to train a host trainee. The remaining delegates and faculty will assessor the trainers delivery using a cSTTAR (course Structured Trainer Training Assessment Form), and after the course the delegates will recieve a copy of their peer assessment.

The course facilitators were Mark Coleman and Nader Francis, the Faculty are Austin Achesons, Prof Amjad Parvaiz, Ian Jenkins, Matthew Clarke, and the host surgeon and team from Christie was led by Selva Sekar. There are a total of 6 Consultant delegates who are attended from around the Country. In addition, there were 3 Observers who are coming to watch the course delivery who are: Gaynor Butler (Cancer Network), Rajesh TK (Plymouth), and Marius Paraoan (Wigan).

This is the last Lapco funded course, before delegates will be required to fund their own places for future courses. The next Lapco TT Course will be taking place at Bradford on 21st/22nd May (£495.00 per delegate), with further courses to be held at Colchester in October 2013, and Christie in January 2014.
